Jimbo's Sigma APO DG EX 70-200mm f/2.8 Macro
i was at a loose end last Saturday so I said to myself, (I'm doing this talking to myself more and more) when in doubt get the camera out and having just purchased a new lens I would try it out.
70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO HSM II
Fast maximum aperture telephoto lens optimised for digital SLR cameras
This telephoto zoom lens has a large constant maximum aperture of f2.8 through the zoom range and it is optimised for digital SLR cameras.

Close-up Photography
This large aperture telephoto zoom lens has a minimum focusing distance of 100cm (39.4”) throughout the entire zoom range, making it very convenient for close-up photography. It maintains a greater working distance that enables you to capture the small animals and insects without disturbing them.

SLD and ELD Glass ElementsThis lens uses two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements for utmost correction against chromatic aberrations. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range.
HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) for silent and fast auto - focus
The HSM provides quiet high-speed AF function, as well as full time manual focus capability.
Inner focusing and inner zooming systems
This lens incorporates an inner focusing system, which eliminates front lens rotation, allowing the use of a petal-type hood and more convenient to use of circular polarizing filter. Since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length, this lens is easy to hold and use. This lens comes with detachable tripod mount.
APO Tele-Converter EX (optional)
The lens can be used with the 1.4x EX or 2.0x EX Apo Tele Converters (optional), becoming a 98-280mm F4 telephoto zoom lens or a 140-400mm F5.6 telephoto zoom lens respectively. It is also possible to use AE (Automatic Exposure) function, when EX Tele-converters are attached.
The thing I like about this lens is it's ability to separate the background from the mani subjetc it does this by being a telephoto which compresses the perspective and by alos being a fast len of 2.8. the object was only 1 meter in front of the lens.
The following photo is of a wind chime ball decoration hanging from the light switch in the middle of my conservatory which is only 10ft across and clearly show the shallow depth of field separation.
ISO 800 f2.8 1/500 sec at 200mm

As well as creating good Bokeh it is a sharp lens at it distant subjects too!

The Flowers of Haddon Hall
Had a wonderful time at Haddon Hall, Whilst I was there I noticed that in every room they had wonderful flower arrangements set against the backdrops of oak cladding full of texture and grain and sumptuous tapestries all with fantastic natural light falling on them and I had to photograph them. Here they are:
